Srikkanth thrilled at team's performance

Last Updated on Thursday, October 29, 2009, 23:56 IST

Nagpur: Chief selector Krishnamachari Srikkanth said that the Indian team`s performance in the second one-dayer against Australia was outstanding and he was happy that Mahendra Singh Dhoni was back to his old swashbuckling best.

"The team`s performance today was outstanding.”

“All of them played well without exception. The old Mahendra Singh Dhoni was seen today.”

“He was brilliant. So too were Gautam Gambhir, Virender Sehwag and others," he said after declaring that the selectors have retained the same team for the next two ODIs of the seven-match series.

The third and fourth ODIs are to be held in Delhi (Oct 31) and Mohali (Nov 2). Srikkanth pointed out that beating a strong side like Australia by a huge margin was not easily accomplished.

"Beating a team like Australia by 99 runs is not a joke. This would give India the confidence to do well in the rest of the series," he said.

I understand that cricketing nations in South Asia they being India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh like to play One Day cricket more than Test Match cricket based on its entertainment value, and its ability to draw crowds to come and watch cricket match live, and over the television, but is this going to destroy Test Match cricket, if it has not already done so substantially. Either one must focus more on Test Match cricket or focus on One Day cricket for the purposes of promotion, revenue, and entertainment. But may be, Test Match enthusiasts must forget the longer version altogether, if this approach or path is adopted by the International Cricket Council, who is the governing body for the game of cricket from a cricketing world perspective. This is my view, but people can differ in their views and have aright to do so. Yours Sincerely, Muralidaran Ramesh Somasunderam.-Muralidaran Ramesh Somasunderam - Perth, Western Australia a
Indian media has got to understand and appreciate that ODI is a game that go either way for the participating teams. For the Media to blast the Indian team when they lost the first ODI by only 4 runs displays lack of sportsmanship on our part and lack of understamding for the game.It should not happen in the coming ODI`s as it leaves a bad taste.-Brij Mahan - Virginia USA a
