The shock exit of the T20 champs, India, from the World T20 meet this time, does raises a lot of questions. It would be simple to go bashing the team for everything they do, but what’s more important right now is to look at the situation more deeply and analyse the root causes of this ouster, thereby preventing such travesties from happening in the future.
One of the reasons for such a performance can be attributed to the ill-timing of the Indian Premier League. The timing of any league has to be right keeping the future tours in mind. In my opinion, if the IPL was not happening in India, there was no need to shift it out.
Even the English Premier League football would not be shifted to Australia under any circumstances!
Players like Virender Sehwag and Zaheer Khan sustained injuries in that tournament and it was a major cause of our bad show in England.
We have to realise that in the T20 format, there can be no clear winner before the verdict of the match is confirmed as it is a highly volatile game.
I don’t expect the Indian camp to have a constant frown after this debacle as every player must be feeling low at this point, what’s important is that lessons are learnt and accordingly, plans executed.
The planning has to be immaculate. They are players, not machines and BCCI must have a balanced calendar to ensure that top cricket is played at all times.
