India favourites to clinch the trophy

India hold a great chance of winning the match against West Indies and the rest of the Super Eight matches as well. Their first opponents, West Indies, are heavily dependent on their captain and power-hitter Chris Gayle.

Chris Gayle is a batsman who can single-handedly turn the match on its head. When he gets going, it’s hard to stop him. However, I have always held the opinion that this is a team game and a single player alone can’t do it all for you.

Indian captain MS Dhoni has to use all his guile to halt Gayle’s march in their first match. Gayle likes to hit on the off-side so Dhoni should pack his off-side with as much as six fielders.

Zaheer will be the trump card for India against Gayle, as he bowls well against the left-handers. Added to this is the fact that in the last couple of years, Zaheer has been India’s main strike bowler. In the match against Windies, as well as against all the opponents of T20 World Cup, he will be the key to India’s chance retaining the trophy.

Contrary to the popular belief, spinners are thriving in the T20 formats. It won’t be a bad idea if we start with Harbhajan Singh in the upcoming matches.

Though Gayle is the main threat, he needs support from the other batsmen as well. Having said that, India are still the favourite to win the match against West Indies, simply because they are the best team of the tournament!
