Ganguly retiring at the right time
Nikhil Chopra
Sourav Ganguly’s sparkling century at Mohali against the mighty Aussies proves that he still has a lot of cricket left in him. His performance in the series so far has led to an outcry amongst his fans, who are now asking him to review his retirement decision.
But I wouldn’t ask Dada to reconsider his decision. In fact, I would say that it is the right time for him to go. Having spent 16 glorious years in the game, Ganguly has given Indian cricket much more than what was expected of him when he started his sojourn.
He is a great cricketer… People need to understand and respect his decision.
Looking at his performance in the ongoing series so far, it can be said that he is at the peak of his form. If he decides to continue for some more time and fails to score runs, it’ll be the same people who would change their statements and opine that Dada should have left earlier.
People have sweet feelings for him now. He should leave before those memories fade and people start criticising him.
Moreover, his exit from the team will pave way for the younger generations. Players like S Badrinath, Rohit Sharma are waiting for their turn to come.
Instead of asking him to change his heart, I would rather support him so that he can leave the game with pride and head held high.
